Social Media Strategy Action Steps

Thursday, March 11, 2010 by Vickie Isaac
As a leading interactive agency, we are asked often about launching social media campaigns.  As a matter of fact, I was asked yesterday if I could get a client's accounts up and running within a couple  of days.  The answer... "No, sorry..."    Because... we always recommend to our clients that a social media strategy is in place PRIOR to the launch of a campaign.

This is part two of social media strategy sessions, focused on action steps after the goals have been established.

When considering what action you want folks to take on your social media sites, there are a number of options listed below from the Interactive Advertising Bureau.  Think through what your goals are, and then create some actionable steps to move your followers towards your goals using action steps.

Action examples:
o Contest/Sweeps Entries
o Coupons downloaded/redeemed
o Games played
o Videos viewed
o Uploads (e.g. images, videos
o Poll votes
o Messages sent (e.g. Bulletins, Updates, Emails, Alerts)
o Invites sent
o Newsfeed items posted
o Comments posted
o Friends reached
o Topics/Forums Created
o Number of Group Members or Fans
o Reposts (“Shares“)

Always keep in mind the end goal as you craft the strategy.  Example: How does having a new topic posted with potential customer comments posted help move you towards your goal?  What are the benefits?

Have your strategy in place prior to launching your social media campaign so that you can measure the activity against the goals set.

Social Media Strategy to Increase Revenue

Monday, March 8, 2010 by Vickie Isaac
As a leading interactive agency, we are often asked by business owners what the benefits are of social media.   We believe that social media should be integrated into the majority of marketing strategies with very few exceptions.  It is important that the role social media plays in an integrated marketing strategy is understood, and the goals and strategies clearly defined prior to embarking on a foray into the world of social media.  Below is some beginning conversation on social media strategy.

Businesses and non-profits alike should have a social media strategy PRIOR to embarking on social media campaigns. Lots of fans on Facebook do not necessarily convert to increased revenues. There are orderly steps to take to use social media as part of an integrated marketing strategy. Here are a few insights to start off the discussion:

1) Define who you are trying to reach out and your end goal as a result of the outreach.

Example: are you using social media to increase sales? If so, here are a few thoughts on strategy:
a) Define your target audience
b) Reach out to them using the search mechanism on Facebook, Twitter, etc. and listen to what is important to them.
c) Engage in dialogue - what is it that you can provide that is important to them?
d) After spending some time listening, and then in conversation, craft your strategy. For example, perhaps your target demographic's most important hot button is getting a great deal right now. How can you respond to match that need? Create your strategy around your target demo's needs, not around your desire to sell, but of course make sure you are meeting your sales goals in the process. Social media is not a "push out" platform, it is a dialogue platform, so keep that in mind.

2) Strategy implementation - keeping folks as fans on Facebook is not usually the end goal for sales. You will need to create the offer, message out using social media, and include a call to action. Example: include a URL so that potential customers will land on your website on the RIGHT page where the offer exists. Include a data capture mechanism (form) so that you can communicate now via e-mail for remarketing purposes. Once the potential customer has given you a name and an e-mail address, allow them to click on your special Facebook offer (Twitter offer, etc.), as a "Members Only" special offer. Make the coupon downloadable or instantly able to purchase online.

More on strategy and remarketing coming soon!   You can visit the Edge site for an audio presentation or downloadable Social Media 101 guide to setting up accounts, etc.   Here is the link: www.edgemedia.biz/index-7.html

ChurchLink Communications Receiving a Warm Welcome by Churches!

Tuesday, February 23, 2010 by Vickie Isaac
We are excited about the warm reception we are receiving from churches in regards to ChurchLink Communications.  We have been focusing on churches using our SMS marketing software, as there are numerous ways it can benefit churches.  As a Christian advertising agency, we are passionate about helping churches and ministries communicate effectively, and we believe technology is a key piece of the communications platform, particularly text messaging.

This morning we met with a church and discussed ways to integrate the SMS marketing software into their security plans.  The Edge Mobile technology can be activated from an authorized user's cell phone, sending an immediate message out to all security and key personnel to alert them to an emergency situation or security breach.  This is particularly important should there be a power failure at the same time, without access to computers or landlines.

Consider also the benefit of using it with the nursery - sending a text message to a parent whose child needs their attention.  Other great uses include prayer alerts, devotionals from the pastor, text questions to screen, youth group communications, etc.  There is plenty of wonderful functionality to help connect the church and its ministries more effectively.

We are offering a one month complimentary subscription (standard text message rates still apply), and set up fees waived to give churches an opportunity to test the Edge Mobile software system.

About Edge Media:  Edge Media is a Christian leading interactive advertising agency located in Phoenix AZ specializing in cutting edge technologies that deliver exceptional results for our clients.

Getting Ready for NRB!

Tuesday, February 23, 2010 by Vickie Isaac
We are very excited about attending the National Religious Broadcasters Convention this year.  There are so many wonderful organizations represented who truly make a difference for our country and the people in it!!  We are looking forward to visiting with the Salvation Army and Compassion International, just to name a few.  Our cutting edge technology solutions can really make a difference as these organizations work hard to change lives.

We will primarily be focused on our Edge Mobile SMS marketing software, as many non-profits are looking for effective ways to raise money.  Just as the Red Cross raised over a milion dollars in one day for the Haitian crisis, this SMS marketing software can help these non-profits raise critically needed support to carry on their important work.

The bulk SMS services system has numerous  functionalities, and several options when it comes to fundraising.  In addition, non-profits need to increase communications with their supporters and text messaging is a wonderful way to do that - action alerts, crowd interaction for live venues, integrated into broadcast, and much more.  For more information on our system's capabilities, go to:  http://www.edgemedia.biz/index-3.html

We have been working in the mobile marketing arena for several years now and are really excited that people are starting to recognize how effective this communications channel is.  If you are attending NRB, let us know, and we will do our best to schedule some time to visit with you!

About Edge Media:  Edge Media is a leading Christian interactive advertising agency specializing in cutting edge technological solutions that deliver exceptional results for our clients.  Edge Media is located in Phoenix, AZ and we have been serving local and national clients with excellence for almost a decade.

New Capabilities for Edge Mobile!

Friday, February 19, 2010 by Vickie Isaac
Edge Media is pleased to announce that we have added another capability to the Edge Mobile SMS marketing software platform.  We have paired text messaging with the ability to print out a coupon, ticket, or special offer.  The coupling of the text message to the coupon/ticketing website closes the gap and makes mobile ticketing and couponing easy to use!

Folks text in to the Edge system, and the system delivers back a PIN number and URL that is matched to a coupon on our website.  People can go to the website, enter their PIN number, and print out their ticket or coupon.   If the uploaded coupon image is a barcode, the printed coupon will be scannable.

In the meantime, of course, our system has captured the cell phone number for remarketing purposes instead of the standard method of offering discounts, tickets, etc. with no way to continue to conversation with that customer.  Our system offers bulk SMS services that allow multiple communications with autoresponders, timed responders, instant responders, etc.

We are offering a free month trial subscription of our SMS marketing software system and free set up ($500 value), but of course standard text messaging rates still apply.  Let me know if you have questions or would like to schedule a webinar walk thru.

About Edge Media:  Edge Media is a leading Christian interactive agency focused on cutting edge technology that delivers exceptional results for our clients.  As a Christian marketing company, we value integrity, service, and excellence in our work.

Social Media Strategy Session #2

Thursday, February 18, 2010 by Vickie Isaac
So... where were we?  Oh yes!  What to do when folks arrive on your website from a social media site.  The first step is the call to action.  What is it you want them to do?  Buy something?  Sign up for something? Register to win something?   Make sure that the call to action is something the visitor can't miss.  A landing page is a good way to accomplish this to eliminate distractions, or link from the social media site directly to the page on the site where you want the visitors to take action.  Think through where they land on the site and what you want them to do next.

The visitor takes the action you want them to.   How do you match the visitor to the lead source to track from lead generation to sale?  There are a number of ways to do this, and if we told you all of our secrets, well, you wouldn't need us, now would you?   Suffice it to say that every step taken must be trackable, or your lead to sale measurements will not be accurate.

The secrets to successful social media begin with creative content and well thought out, measurable action steps.  I've said it before, and I'll say it again... don't tweet just to hear yourself chirp.   You can also check out Social Media 101 on our website, or download the audio file.  Here is the link:  www.edgemedia.biz/index-7.html  Call us if you want to schedule a brainstorming session about your marketing needs!

Social Media Measurement

Thursday, February 18, 2010 by Vickie Isaac
Lots of folks are paying attention to social media these days, and a fair chunk of change is being dumped into social media marketing efforts.  As we discuss social media with our clients and potential clients, the question that always arises is, "How does it help grow our business?"  This is actually a great question.  And the answer?  It depends...

Not a concise answer, to be sure, but truthful, which in my opinion counts for everything.  The last thing that a client wants is for their agency to "sell them".  Honestly, it depends on the client's goals.  Keep in mind that followers or fans for the sake of large numbers does nothing, in the same way that large volumes of traffic to a website without a call to action accomplishes very little.

The other important piece to note is that one of the primary goals is to move folks from social media sites to the client site.  There must be a strategy to accomplish this.  Once moved from the social site to the website, the results of social media can be measured.

Currently most CMO's measure success from social media marketing by increase in site traffic.  Site traffic is good, and easily measurable from social websites to client websites.

What is the action you want visitors to take once on the website?  And how will you track who is doing what from where?  This is where the fun begins... Strategy session to be continued...

About Edge Media:  Edge Media is a leading interactive Christian advertising agency specializing in cutting edge technologies that deliver exceptional results for our clients.  Our cutting edge technologies include SMS marketing software that gives our clients access to bulk SMS services, optimized blogging delivering exceptional results in the SEO realm, social media, and a myriad of other services, which is of course why we are a leading interactive Christian advertising agency!

Preparing for NRB - Hope to see you there!

Wednesday, February 17, 2010 by Vickie Isaac
We are excited about NRB 2010!  Looking forward to connecting with colleagues, old friends, and colleagues who are old friends!  We are meeting with a number of Christian broadcast networks, Christian ministries and non-profits, and Christian agencies who want to discuss our SMS marketing software.  If you are attending and interested, call us, we would love to visit!

The ability to communicate through the delivery of bulk SMS services to listeners, viewers, donors, and organization supporters is rapidly becoming a critical component of effective communications platforms.   For example, one of our clients, the Family Research Council has been using text messaging to mobilize their supporters to take urgent action in the healthcare debate.  Tony Perkins, President of Family Research Council, just used the Edge Mobile platform during a live speaking engagement. While he was speaking, he invited the audience to text in if they would like more information about Family Research Council.  The audience responded well, the system captured the cell phone number of the person who texted in, and FRC delivered back a message about Family Research Council and a URL link in the text message for more information.  Family Research Council now has the ability to remain in communication with the folks who responded during the speaking engagement.

The Decade of Mobile Marketing

Wednesday, January 6, 2010 by Vickie Isaac
Edge Media added Edge Mobile, our SMS marketing software, to our marketing toolbox over three years ago.  Since that time we have researched, utilized, marketed, and preached about the power of mobile marketing.  2009 seemed to be a year of inertia, with companies holding onto their budgets and unwilling to venture into new marketing territory.  I believe, and research supports my belief that 2010 will usher in the decade of mobile marketing!

Already this year we have had a significant uptick in inquiries about our bulk SMS services.  Marketers and businesses alike are recognizing the necessity of integrating mobile into their marketing strategy.  As a mobile advertising agency, we have seen very impressive results for the campaigns that we have integrated SMS into.

I do continue to believe that the key is in the strategy.  SMS marketing software is a great tool to add to the toolbox, and a mobile website is another must for this new decade of smart phone capabilities.  My recommendation as a mobile advertising agency owner is to start with SMS as a wonderful direct response tool, measure the results, and then continue to expand into the mobile space.  Use all appropriate media interactive agency marketing and and advertsing consultants do - use the media wisely and integrate the strategy into all levels of the campaign.  2010 will be exciting and the decade a great one for this emerging marketing space!

Including Mobile SMS Response as Call To Action for Sweepstakes

Sunday, January 3, 2010 by Vickie Isaac
The Mobile Marketer just published a recent interview with Disney marketers who reveal that in a recent sweepstakes more than half of their responses to their campaign came in the form of opt in text messages.  Disney also revealed their mobile marketing strategies for 2010 and the increasing emphasis of mobile marketing.  Disney is not alone.  As I predicted in a previous blog, 2010 will be the year of adoption for major brands with mobile and interactive marketing.   We recognized this potential several years ago and added mobile to our advertising agency strategies.

As a mobile advertising agency, we have also experienced the impact of integrating bulk SMS services into our overall strategies, as people respond to a campaign using opt in text messages.  The cell phone number is then considered opted in and we are able to remarket to that cell phone as appropriate, creating a growing database that generates very positive results to our outbound text based marketing messages.  The Edge Mobile SMS marketing software is easy to use, very affordable, and is available on a subscription basis to access bulk SMS services.  Click over to our website for a complimentary one month subscription: http://www.edgemedia.biz/index-3.html

Mobile Marketing Comes of Age in 2010

Wednesday, December 30, 2009 by Vickie Isaac
For the past three years I have been excited about mobile marketing, learning, researching, using, fine tuning, and wondering why everyone is not as excited as I am or using it as consistently as we are at Edge Media.  I believe that 2010 is the year that mobile marketing really comes of age in the United States, and I can't wait!

Why do I say this? 2009 saw brands and businesses pull the purse strings tight, hesitant to add any "experimental" marketing channel to their marketing mix.  2009 also witnessed the near death of print publications, and the shrinking revenues of radio and television, and more focus went online to social media. Mobile marketing will thrive in 2010 as phones are smarter, networks are faster, consumers are becoming more in control of messages they receive, and marketers are demanding measurable results for the dollars they spend.

Sending SMS messages to people as a marketing channel means that a message is sent to cell phones when folks ASK to be marketed to.  This is a key to the success of mobile marketing - that it is OPT IN ONLY marketing - not spam, or unwanted marketing.  As a leading mobile marketing agency, we will NEVER send text spam, as the privacy of people's cell phones must be respected to maintain the integrity and strong marketing results that this marketing channel delivers. Our Edge Mobile SMS marketing software actually deactives a cell phone number when folks opt out of receiving SMS messages, so even if we wanted to, we couldn't spam via text!

Our SMS marketing software is easy to use, can have a campaign up and running in 48 hours, and deliver detailed reports on the success of the send.  We also offer our mobile marketing expertise to our clients, as we have learned that bulk SMS services are also only as valuable as the content they contain. Our advertising and marketing consultants have hundreds of successful campaigns under our belts, a plethora of research and best practices data at our fingertips, and we are ready to turn our clients' goals into reality into 2010, delivering great results for their mobile and integrated marketing campaigns.

Mobile Marketing Predicted to Grow 27% in 2010!

Tuesday, December 15, 2009 by Vickie Isaac
Mobile marketing in the United States is predicted to be a 2.1 billion dollar industry in 2010.  This is a 27% growth increase over 2009, which is great news for a mobile advertising agency!  As a leading mobile advertising agency, we are very excited about the growth potential, but still believe that the rules should not change despite the growth predictions.  The rules include operating with a great deal of respect for the privacy of the consumer's cell phone - never sending a text with out permission to do so.  Marketers must respect this space, or the effectiveness of mobile marketing will diminish.  It is, and should remain, permission based marketing.

Our SMS marketing software is built so that users who opt out (and they should always be given the opportunity to do so in the first message) are automatically deactivated in our system so that they cannot receive a message until they personally opt back in.  I believe this is a key to the success of our mobile advertising agency, and to the mobile advertising industry as a whole.  Regardless of the ability to deliver bulk SMS services, the ability to send in bulk should never override the respect of the single cell phone user.  I believe that all SMS marketing software should have the same safeguards built in to their bulk SMS services to preserve the mobile marketing industry integrity overall.

Additionally, as part of mobile marketing best practices, the ability to opt out of a mobile campaign needs to be included on the first message out from the system.  Our advertising and marketing consultants craft the first message around the fact that this is a non-negotiable in the first message, despite the character limitations.

Growth is good, and respect for the end consumer who is fueling the growth is even better!

Leveraging Social Media to Drive Leads

Friday, October 30, 2009 by Vickie Isaac
Marketers are referring to the "conversation economy", meaning that we have left behind the era of "product pushing", and must be mindful of the shift to consumer driven, consumer chosen media.  Social media offers businesses the perfect communications platform to develop consumer conversations, if the social media is "conversational".

Monitoring conversations using keyword search on Twitter for example can help marketers understand the conversation surrounding their product or service and then engage in meaningful dialogue, responding to consumer needs instead of pushing out information.  Using the interactive nature of the web means that the consumer gives you keys to what they want, and you respond by meeting those needs.

As an interactive web agency, we have learned the necessity of interacting!  As a leading interactive agency, we generate results for our clients by integrating a number of internet marketing strategies, including social media, search engine optimization, internet marketing, optimized blogging, SMS marketing software that delivers bulk SMS services, and standard broadcast media as well. A recent success story includes a client we have been working with for three months.  In that time period, we have used all of these components to dramatically increase website traffic (by 3000%!), and sales by 75%!  Visit our website to find out more about the services Edge Media provides at:  index-2.html

Republican Party SMS Marketing Software

Tuesday, October 6, 2009 by Vickie Isaac
Edge Mobile SMS marketing software is the perfect solution for Republican candidates who do not know how to integrate text messaging into their campaigns.  For the record, text messaging needs to be integrated into every political campaign for several reasons:
1) People have their cell phones with them 80% of the time.
2) 94% of all text messages are read.
3) Text messages are usually read within 5 minutes.
4) Response to an SMS marketing message is 30% higher than an e-mail marketing message.
5) Text message marketing is much less expensive than direct mail and phone calls.
6) Research shows a 5% impact on voter turnout on election day when a text message is received.
7) The SMS marketing software captures the cell phone number of the person texting in, stores it by group according to the word they used to text in, and creates the opportunity to continue to communicate with the cell phone user on a regular basis.
8) Edge Mobile software also delivers URL's, can conduct voting, can be used for fundraising, and also has a chat to screen component for a live interactive feel for events.

The use of bulk SMS services in political campaigns is critical to success.  For more information on Edge Mobile, go to: index-3.html    To schedule a complimentary consultation and review further campaign statistics & strategies with Vickie Isaac, President/Owner of Edge Media, e-mail vickie@edgemedia.biz

ChurchLink Mobile Marketing System

Tuesday, October 6, 2009 by Vickie Isaac
We are so excited about introducing ChurchLink Mobile Marketing system!  This SMS marketing software allows churches to instantly connect with their congregations.  People have their cell phones with them 80% of the time, there is a 94% read rate for text messages, and usually within 5 minutes.  In the second quarter of 2008, text message communications exceeded calling for the first time ever in the U.S.!  This system is a great communications tool for churches, and churches need to be all about communicating!

ChurchLink Mobile allows churches to effectively use bulk SMS services to create and deliver text message prayer alerts, event reminders, devotionals, pastoral encouragement, and so much more!  Consider the use of it for individual ministry groups - your youth pastor can send reminders to just the youth group, your nursery can use it for parent notification during services, your security can use it for instant and silent communication.   The SMS marketing software can be accessed from a computer, or from a mobile phone.  It is easy to use and very affordable.

Text Messaging for Republican Political Campaigns

Sunday, October 4, 2009 by Vickie Isaac
The Obama campaign of 2008 used SMS marketing software to deliver text messages in an extremely effective manner and a significant database of mobile numbers (estimated at over two million numbers) were collected for campaign communications. Research indicates that text messaging increased voter turnout by at least 5%, which is substantial.   Research also indicates that younger demos (18-34) and Hispanics are most likely to respond to text messages.

The Republican Party needs to adopt an effective mobile political campaign strategy including apps, ringtones, wallpaper, viral components, and action alerts.  Event participation, voter registration, and voter turnout messaging.  The time to collect data is right now with opt in sign ups at political events. The use of bulk SMS services is very cost effective, particularly when compared to the cost of direct mail and phone calls.

As a leading interactive agency, Edge Media integrates its SMS marketing software system, Edge Mobile, with marketing research and strategy to create mobile marketing campaigns that are cost effective and produce measurable results.

Mobile Advertising Will Increase 74% This Year!

Wednesday, September 2, 2009 by Vickie Isaac
As radio sees unprecendented declines of 25% in ad revenues, mobile advertising is predicted to enjoy a 74% increase in global spending, to $913.5 million, according to a new report from Gartner.  Mobile advertising in the U.S. will grow from $208 million in 209 to $1.5 billion in 2013, according to a study from Parks Associates.

Smartphones and 3G network data plans are key drivers for this grown, as smartphones currently account for about 36.5% of all U.S. phones, and predicted to rise to 45.5% of all mobile sales by 2013, according to Gartner.

As  a leading interactive agency, we integrated SMS marketing software into our advertising strategy early on as we predicted the need to also become a mobile advertising agency.  We are excited about the growth, and as marketing companies in Phoenix have been closing their doors, we are grateful that new technology has not only provided new revenue streams, but also great results for our clients. We now integrate bulk SMS services into all applicable campaigns to create a measurable direct response component and a remarketing opportunity, thus increasing the likelihood of the sale.  This is a win for both clients and Edge Media!
